Morning Glory

I don't know many people who have a ton of time to get ready in the morning, but when you have a baby, that amount of time gets cut down to about a tenth of what you had pre-baby.

On par with "I stayed for one last drink at the happy hour and for some reason made it a liquor drink and got home at 2:30 then hit my snooze button 7 times and now I'm running an hour late" amount of time.

But it's every day.

So, I've had to pare back my morning makeup routine to the essentials.  Pretty much every day, I use four products and two tools, as shown above.  Well, three tools.  I can't show you my makeup sponge, 'cause it's kind of gross.  I can apply this in five minutes, basically with one eye on the mirror, one eye on the baby.

{1} Kiehl's Ultra Facial Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15 in Light.  A fabulous basic tinted moisturizer from the people who know skincare.

{2} MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NC20.  Another solid basic that I've used for a few years.  It has a great texture and easily conceals the dark circles born right around, oh, I don't know...October of 2010?

{3} Bright blush.  I'm currently using one from the MAC Fafi Collection from long ago, but my other favorites are NARS Sin and Bobbi Brown Peony.  It looks bright in the packaging but goes on lightly to just make me look less pallid.

{4} L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black.  This is a non-negotiable for me.  I have the palest eyelashes and look super-bizarre without mascara.  I'm still looking for "The One" in mascaras (inky black, no clumps, smudgeproof, removes easily with makeup me!) but this is fine for now.

{5} Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler.  Simply the best.

{6} MAC travel sized blush brush.

And that's it!  The key is also to keep my skin and hair looking good at a baseline (another post soon!)  I'm not going to win any beauty pageants, but it works for daytime and can easily be amped up directly after we put the baby to bed for a night on the town (also another post!).

What is your routine?  How have you cut back from your pre-baby days?  Favorite products?

  1. Totally awesome list, and very similar to mine. For me, it's tinted moisturizer and gel blush (both by pixi), with a wash of neutral eyshadow (usually stila's kitten). And lip balm, of course! The whole thing takes less than a minute and makes me pulled-together enough not to dread running into a mirror.

  2. Yes! Lip balm. I usually share some Aquaphor with the baby on our way out, although I do love me some Rosebud salve. Kitten is amazing and I think they make a smudgeproof version...might have to look into that.

  3. As for mascara (and I have pretty much tried every one out there), I really like Mac's false lashes. It is really good and does everything. It comes off really easy too. I use the Neutrogena waterproof makeup wipes and it comes right off. If you want an eyeliner, the Mally eyeliner cannot be beat. It glides on really easy too (even better than the Urban Decay ones!!!). Now I need some eye shadow--I think I may try that Stila kitten... Getting ready with a baby is so hard!!!!!
